The Art and Science Fair is a unique experience that encourages learning by doing, exploring without fear, and discovering what happens when we combine the creativity of art with the curiosity of science. It is a space for experimenting, creating, and dreaming up new possibilities.
Who is it aimed at?
For 3rd and 4th year secondary school students who will become researchers and artists by participating in workshops that spark the imagination and critical thinking.
How does it work?
- Each school will participate on a single day (to be chosen from 11, 12, 13 and 14 November) from 10:00 to 13:30.
- During the day, the group will take part in two workshops on the same theme.
- Maximum number of students per school: 40.
Upon arrival, the group will take part in the workshop on the selected theme. At the end of the day, we will meet in a joint assembly to share experiences, discoveries and lessons learned.
The workshops are designed to encourage experimentation, creativity and reflection in a dynamic, collaborative and participatory environment. The programme consists of 6 WORKSHOPS organised into 3 themes. Each centre must choose 1 theme that includes 2 workshops.
PROGRAMME
Axis 1 · Listening to collaboration between species
Everything we do every day connects us to other species and our environment. We are part of a vast network of relationships, exchanges and influences. We depend on each other — humans, animals, plants, ecosystems — and the way we relate to each other can enrich life or, conversely, deteriorate it.
This axis invites us to explore these invisible connections and reflect on our responsibility to care for the planet, imagining fairer, more respectful and sustainable ways of coexisting.
Workshops:
- Do not speak with your mouth full · Taught by Coco Moya
- Smells Like Kin · Taught by Denisa Pubalova and the LABoral education team
Axis 2 · Living in collaboration between species
Through the spaces we build, we relate to other species and to our own community.
When we design places that are closed off and separated from nature, we reinforce a vision of domination and disconnection. In contrast, open, hybrid and shared spaces foster cooperation, coexistence and respect between forms of life.
This axis invites us to imagine and create more inclusive, sustainable and connected ways of living, recognising that the places we occupy express our knowledge, values and aspirations for the future.
Workshops:
- Bio-inspired cities, imagined cities · Taught by Marlén López
- Our caves (intermediate spaces and assemblages between species) · Taught by Susana Velasco
Axis 3 · Thinking about collaboration between humans and machines
Artificial intelligence does not think or decide on its own: it is born from collaboration between humans and machines. Behind every algorithm are human decisions about what data to use, how to interpret it and what objectives to prioritise.
Today, AI is applied in key fields such as medicine and justice, opening up new possibilities but also raising profound ethical dilemmas. As its economic and social power grows, so does concern about its transparency, fairness and legitimacy.
This theme invites us to critically explore artificial intelligence: to ask ourselves what future we are building with it, and whether there is still room for humanity.
Workshops:
- What lies behind AI · Led by Marga Padilla
- The desire to be red-skinned (in the age of AI) · Led by Rafael Sánchez
Based on the conclusions drawn from the workshops, an educational guide will be produced, which will include a methodological proposal on working between art and science in educational contexts.
The Art and Science Fair is a programme developed by LABoral Centro de Arte together with GRIGRI, as part of the European project Studiotopia, an initiative involving 11 cultural organisations and scientific institutions across Europe, including LABoral. The aim of the project is to explore the intersection between art and science by promoting dialogue between both disciplines in order to address the main global challenges facing our society today.
Activities must be booked in advance by contacting the education department at LABoral Centro de Arte via email: educacion@laboralcentrodearte.org, or telephone: 985 185 577
