Studiotopia: Entering the Symbiocene with Arts and Science is a project co-funded by the Creative Europe programme that runs from 2024 to 2027. It involves 11 European cultural institutions looking for artists who wish to collaborate with scientists in the sciences and humanities, learn about the latest advances in research and contribute to generating relevant global discourses.
The framework of this initiative is the Symbiocene, a term coined by the Australian philosopher and environmentalist Glenn Albrecht that proposes a future in which different species (human and non-human) relate to each other through mutually beneficial collaborations. This new perspective is the context for developing interdisciplinary thinking processes, while reconsidering natural/artificial differences, including technology in the human/natural/artificial relationship.
Local challenge committee (LCC)
The first step of the project has been to set up a Local Challenge Committee, a group of experts in disciplines related to the framework, to define a challenge, located in Asturias, to which emerging artists will submit their projects.
Open Call
In September 2024 Studiotopia launches a call for emerging artists and/or scientists to respond to the challenges posed through a residency.
At LABoral, the selected artist will collaborate with scientist Felipe Lombó during their residency to research the challenge posed by the Local Challenge Committee.
