Calculating Empires is a comprehensive exploration of the connection between technology and power from the 1500s to the present day.
This piece conceives contemporary technologies as the culmination of a long historical chain of knowledge and control systems, following Donna Haraway’s proposal to map what she calls the “informatics of domination”.
Through a visual genealogy, authors Kate Crawford and Vladan Joler demonstrate how systems of power, information and historical events interact across time and space, inviting the viewer to reflect on new ways of imagining the future.
The work demands close observation and offers multiple interpretations. The guided tours are designed to facilitate an understanding of the work and to make the most of the wealth of information it contains.
The guided tour will take place on Saturday, April 5 at 12:30 pm.
To attend, prior registration is required by e-mail at info@laboralcentrodearte.org or by phone at 985 185 577.
