FICXLAB is the section of the Gijón International Film Festival, organized with LABoral, whose objective is to introduce video-art and experimental cinema within the framework of a film festival like Gijón.

FICXLAB is a section of the Gijón International Film Festival organized by LABoral, whose objective is to introduce video art and experimental cinema within the framework of a film competition like the one in Gijón. In its second edition, FICXLAB insists on the need to provide the viewer with tools that help them unravel the knot of images that shapes the complex reality we live.


PROJECTIONS

  • FILM AND SUPPORT MATERIAL: 16 mm

Laida Lertxundi + Rebecca Meyes + David GattenThrough the presentation of the recent work of these three important names in the international experimental film scene, who have been present at festivals such as Rotterdam, Ann Arbor or Views of avant garde in New York, this section focuses on the support 16 mm as a tool to translate reality into images. Everyday images, not at all grandiose, filmed from the stupor produced by the forms and matter of the cosmos.

Presentation of the work of two French authors Jean-Charles Fitoussi and Eric Baudelaire. Without becoming part of the independent cinema establishment, his works can be seen at international festivals such as Mar de Plata, Cannes or Toronto, being at the same time highly valued for a form of artistic work that seeks to expand the limits of traditional cinematographic narrative. Baudelaire’s work has also been seen, in installation format, in different museums and art centers such as MACBA. He is now preparing an exhibition at Fredericianum in Kassel that will open during the Festival.

Dora García + Teresa Solar + Guillermo G Peydró

Cycle dedicated to moving images made by artists from the Spanish State. From the work of the filmmaker Dora García, which could be seen at the Rotterdam Festival, to Peydró’s production, made during her residency this year at LABoral after winning the Universe Video award, awarded by LABoral and the International Film Festival of Gijón, to arrive at the premiere of the new film by the artist Teresa Solar who, despite her youth, is already a regular on the country’s artistic circuits.
