The World is Forest

Rotor Studio & Diego Flórez

2 September 2022 – 02 September 2023

Thinking of the world as a forest is more important today than ever: a forest that welcomes us, that is endangered, and that needs to be protected.

On a warming planet, forests capture up to a third of the carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels each year. They maintain biodiversity and exhale the oxygen we breathe. Yet forests are threatened by fires, indiscriminate logging and the impacts of climate change.

This exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in a real and fantastic world inspired both by the forests of Asturias and by an unknown biome from another planet, or perhaps from the almost extinct and damaged Earth.

The title of the play is inspired by the book “The Name of the World is Forest” by Ursula K. Le Guin, a writer who revolutionised science fiction by means of a literary hybridisation with other fields of knowledge such as anthropology, feminism or ecology.

The World is Forest takes the form of a large-format immersive installation in the project room of LABoral Centro de Arte and a public programme of round tables, guided tours, reading clubs, children’s workshops and activities in bookshops.
