The Forest

Opening on October 17 at 7 p.m. at LABoral Centro de Arte

17 October 2025 – 21 March 2026

El Bosque by Hugo Martínez-Tormo transfers the aesthetic imagery of the natural ecosystem to the exhibition space through three installations. The works establish a relationship of shared responsibility and symbolic co-creation, as in Bosque Pixelado (Pixelated Forest), a large fragmented image in which each pixel-square acquired by the public translates into the planting of a real tree. The work does not end with representation, but generates ecological action in the physical world.

The artistic image is transformed into a device for interconnection: the viewer becomes an active node in a network that affects the ecosystem. Ecology teaches us how a forest is not a sum of trees but a permanent communication system: the wood wide web. Beneath the surface, mycorrhizal fungi intertwine the roots of different species: trees communicate and help each other. We are talking about a biological organisation that has much to do with the architecture of the Internet and the flow of information. The metaphor becomes inevitable. Martínez-Tormo makes his work a critical mirror. Although we live in a networked society, we often act as if we were solitary trees. Planting a tree within the work is a minimal gesture, but its true meaning emerges only when it connects with others.
