Guest exhibition: Cambiantes

A pioneering work of video art in Brazil, by the artist Analivia Cordeiro

2 October 2026 – 27 March 2027

Cambiantes, by the Brazilian artist and dancer Analivia Cordeiro, marks the launch of the new Obra Invitada programme, which LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial is launching in 2026 with the aim of establishing a dedicated exhibition space for the presentation of a single work drawn from public and private collections.

Regarded as a seminal work in the history of video art and video dance, Cambiantes will be presented on 2 October at LABoral Centro de Arte, in collaboration with the New Art Foundation. The piece, a pioneering work of video art in Brazil and one of the earliest examples of video dance on the international stage, explores the relationships between the body, movement, image and technology.

The work reimagines the language of dance through its own system of movement notation, ‘Nota Anna’, which was subsequently developed using an experimental computer programme, establishing an early dialogue between the body, moving images and technology. Cordeiro, one of the key figures in the development of video art in Brazil, follows in the footsteps of neo-concrete art and engages with the transformations in modern dance and the performative practices of her time.

Through the ‘Obra Invitada’ programme, LABoral will incorporate works from various collections into its programme with the aim of showcasing representative pieces that explore the relationship between contemporary art, technology and the social context from diverse perspectives, taking into account different geographical areas, historical periods and modes of production.
