Omnipresent Eyes Project

The emergence of ubiquitous technologies brings with it a widespread expectation of new forms of collective authorship. In his research he investigates the ecological and neomaterialist foundations that underpin ideas of digital participation and aspires to offer an improved understanding of the complex nature of collective feedback, creating novel mediated urban narratives.

In a recent series of participatory projects and events developed as FLOW Architecture in collaboration with Vincent Nowak, artists turn to the compilation of galvanic skin responses (GSR) as an indicator of the emotional state of the participants and as a tool to explore the emotional connection of the participants with the space and the processes of group subject formation.

The Metropolitan Area of Asturias is a polycentric conurbation made up of councils that are articulated around the municipalities of Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés. Historically characterized by being a powerful industrial focus, and today by a high population density, the area maintains a semi-rural character, with its dispersed polarities connected by an important infrastructural heritage. Currently, there are plans in place aimed at uniting the region, centralizing and optimizing key services, as a form of negotiation between the different municipalities.

Using GSR-augmented interviews and social network analysis, the project will attempt to map the distributed and diverse character of the area, engaging its inhabitants in an introspective inquiry into the nature of their collective identity and polycentric cultural landscape. Exploring concepts of place through the eyes of inhabitants, the project aims to compile a visual and textual archive of people’s emotional connections with the different locations in the region.
