Born in Oviedo, Juan Díaz-Faes is a visual artist specialising in drawing, animation and illustration. He studied Fine Art at the University of Salamanca and subsequently undertook research into the creative process as part of the ‘Applied Creativity’ PhD programme at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
In 2011, he moved to this city, where he has pursued his prolific creative career. His versatility has led him to explore and venture into different fields and disciplines, such as illustration, poster design, his foray into writing and illustrating comics, mural art, painting and digital art.
With a restless, sincere and light-hearted approach to artistic creation, and a visual language that is warm and accessible, this artist brings to life charming compositions and characters through geometric shapes, lines and vibrant patterns. Yet at the same time, Díaz-Faes’s work and narrative demand attention and a detailed reading, as each detail reveals its own complexity and meaning.
Since 2017, cities such as Miami, Austin, Guangzhou, Punta del Este, Seoul, Caracas, Paris, Hamburg, Madrid, Oviedo and Santander have been home to large-scale murals by Díaz-Faes.
He has also exhibited at: Conde Duque (Madrid), Centre Point Éphémère (Paris), Museo Solo (Madrid), Villazán Mitsukoshi Gallery (Tokyo)… He has also taken part in art fairs such as: Urvanity Art Fair (Madrid), Urban Break (Seoul and Busan), The One Art (Taipei), Culture Art Park (Tokyo) and CerARTmic (Madrid), amongst others.
Together with friends, he is the founder of the music production company Muwon (www.muwom.com), which is currently a major player in the market. He has also set up a comic book publishing house with some friends, publishes a comic with the publisher Astiberri, and works as an illustrator for various magazines and in advertising.
