(Ribadesella, 1942)

Consuelo Vallina, born in Ribadesella, is a painter, printmaker and creator of artist’s books and ceramics. She studied drawing and painting at the School of Arts and Crafts in Oviedo and graduated with a degree in Applied Arts, specialising in interior design. She also trained in contemporary tapestry in Barcelona and Poland, and in printmaking at the International School of Graphic Arts in Venice.

For several years she ran art workshops for children, with her pupils winning numerous regional and national awards.

She teaches courses in printmaking and painting at the International School of Graphic Arts in Venice, at the Taller Aperto in Venice, and at the Universidad Popular in Avilés; for a time she also worked in graphic design…

Since 1978, she has held solo exhibitions in Asturias and other major cities in Spain, Italy and the USA. During the 1990s, she held a number of exhibitions at venues such as the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias; the 6th International Tapestry Triennial, City of Łódź, and the Łódź Historical Museum; the Jovellanos Birthplace Museum in Gijón; and the Evaristo Valle Foundation.

In the early 2000s, her works were exhibited at the Alex Gallery, Washington; the Venecia Viva Gallery, Venice; in Tampa, Florida; at Gema Llamazares, Gijón; at Guillermina Caicoya and the Arancha Osoro Gallery, Oviedo; and most recently at the Amaga Gallery in Avilés. Among her most recent exhibitions are: Flores de marisma, 2021, at the Archaeological Museum of Asturias, Oviedo; Consuelo Vallina 1981–2006, 2023, at Plaza de Trascorrales, Oviedo; and EN ESENCIA: naturaleza, palabras, sonido, 2024, at the Exhibition Hall of the Historic Building of the University of Oviedo.

Consuelo Vallina is a visual artist whose work is rooted in abstraction. She combines painting with contemporary tapestry, a field in which she is a pioneer in Asturias.
Among her achievements, she was the first president of the regional branch of the Federation of Progressive Women. Furthermore, she is president of the Association of Visual Artists of Asturias and of the Union of Contemporary Artists of Spain (2018–2022), an honorary member of the AC Union, recipient of the Asturias Medal 2024, and a member of the Governing Board of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias and the Scientific Committee of Laboral.
