From a young age, he has been involved in the visual arts, music, dance and theatre. At the age of 14, he began his studies at the Provincial School of Visual Arts in Las Tunas (Cuba). He then moved to Havana, where he continued his training at the National School of Fine Arts; it was during this period that he took his first steps into the world of cinema. In the 1990s, he became an independent artist, exhibiting in art galleries in Havana. In 1999, he held his first exhibition abroad and travelled to Spain. He travelled to several European cities, including Lisbon and Madrid, exchanging artistic experiences. Upon his return to Spain, his work was in high demand, and he settled permanently in Oviedo, where he began working in private and public galleries, combining this with his teaching activities.

In 2008, he founded his own art academy, where he teaches children and adults, surrounded by a cultural environment he is passionate about.

His work is characterised by a combination of vibrant colours, expressive brushstrokes and the Cuban social and cultural themes he explores in his paintings.

In addition to his work as a painter, Polanco has also ventured into other artistic disciplines such as drawing, sculpture, video and photography. His creativity and versatility have been recognised with several awards and honourable mentions in various art competitions.
