On Illness

31 July 2021

Presentation of the performance resulting from his artistic residency

On Illness is a collaborative work between Laura Cueto (dancer, choreographer and performance artist) and Luz Mar González-Arias (lecturer at the University of Oviedo, specialist in contemporary medical poetry) that aims to reflect on the condition of being ill in the 21st century through a performative response to the poem about cancer “The Day of Gethsemane” by the Irish poet Dorothy Molloy.

Based on the title of Virginia Woolf’s famous essay On Being Ill, this project reflects on the difficulty of articulating illness through words and situates the body as the subject, not just the object, of research into the concepts of health and illness, offering a complementary perspective to both medical-health discourses and literary criticism on these subjects. The resulting work is multimedia in nature, using movement, word, image and sound space to support the performative action.

This work will inaugurate the Creation Laboratory of the R+D+i project “Illness in the age of extinction”, which will develop new ways of conducting academic research from the body and artistic expression.

Limited capacity. Prior registration at info@laboralcentrodearte.org
