MUSOC: The path is never the same by Oliver Ressler

26 January 2023

Screening The path is never the same at MUSOC (XI Social and Human Rights Film Festival of Asturies)

This film focuses on two complex, self-organizing systems: a forest and an occupation. The Hambacher Forest near Cologne, Germany, has become the scene of Europe’s longest canopy occupation. Since 2012, approximately 200 people have lived in this forest to prevent its logging by the energy company RWE, whose purpose is to extract lignite.

The film reflects on the forest as a living space and on the need to confront climate vandalism perpetrated in the name of “economic activity.” People here organize themselves in a non-hierarchical way, placing themselves – as one activist says in the film: “just like the trees, next to each other, at the same level.”

In addition, the book ‘Climate Change’ will be presented, halfway between graphic novel, autobiographical essay and journalistic investigation, it proposes a look as lucid and critical as it is committed on the reality of global warming.
