Humans versus machines: how to coexist with AI

Future and Technology Conference

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already integrated into many aspects of our daily lives. Consciously or not, we live with it from the moment we use applications on our mobile phones, consume cultural products on streaming platforms or make online purchases.

This technology, which is increasingly present in our daily lives, also poses new challenges and dilemmas to be faced. What uses can it be put to? What new ethical questions does it raise? Can AI be the author of works of art? The 2025 Future and Technology Conference, organised by the Municipal Foundation for Culture, Education and Popular University – Gijón/Xixón City Council, in collaboration with LABoral Centro de Arte, will attempt to answer these and other questions through talks and lectures given by professionals.

The conference is organised into four days of lectures, each day focusing on a specific topic:

4 November, 7 p.m. (Antiguo Instituto Cultural Centre)

  • Natural Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence: The Future of Intelligence? By Salvador Martínez Pérez. (Miguel Hernández University. Alicante).
  • Artificial intelligence and the human brain: the mind and emotions behind a glass wall. By Ignasi Beltrán. (Open University of Catalonia).

5 November, 7 p.m. (Old Institute Cultural Centre)

  • Humanism, humanity and artificial intelligence. By Mercedes Siles. (University of Malaga).
  • Living with artificial intelligence in everyday life. Eliminating risks and advantages of coexisting with AI. By Noelia Rico. (Centre for Studies on the Social Impact of Artificial Intelligence. University of Oviedo).

6 November, 7 p.m. (LABoral Art Centre)

Disruption. By Marina Núñez. (Artist and lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Vigo).
Planetary AIs. By Solimán López. (Researcher in art, science and biotechnology).

The Future and Technology Conference also includes a digital exhibition of Art and Generative AI in collaboration with creAtIva Magazine, which will be screened between 29 October and 5 November at the Antiguo Instituto Cultural Centre.
