Xelar

1 January 2015 – 01 June 2016

Selected in the call for artistic residencies for musicians 2015.

Xelar was born in 2010. That same year they digitally self-released their first album titled Un. In 2011 Mayu was released. In both cases Xelar develops ambient and minimalist lines inspired by Asturian landscapes. In December 2011 he presents Trabayos en progresu, a compilation of his latest demos. The first public presentation of his songs was at the Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto de Gijón (December 2010) as part of the presentation of the “Videoteca de Gijón”.

In 2015 he was selected as a resident musician at LABoral, and this same year the guitarist Iván González joined the project. With the new line-up, they played live music for the animated film Las aventuras del príncipe Achmed, (1926) by Lotte Reininger, as part of the LABshop Primavera 2015 activities, and were part of the line-up for the Monkey Days Festival held in Gijón. Right now the duo is recording a new work that includes some of the pieces from this last performance. Xelar’s music moves in different genres: ambient, drone, minimalism, even pop and shoegaze”.
