Contest call to spread the situation of Climatic change among iberoamerican citizens

The Organisation of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), will launch the “Climate Change: Ideas and Perspectives from Ibero-America” Award on 5 June, World Environment Day, in two categories: photography and short, high-quality popular articles. The closing date for entries will be 15 August 2009.

The winning works and a selection of those submitted will be exhibited at LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial. The opening of the exhibition will take place on September 26, 2009, on the occasion of the celebration of the Spanish National Consultation of WWViews on Global Warming, a pioneering proposal for a worldwide citizen consultation promoted by the Danish Council for Technology.

During the same day, ordinary citizens from more than forty countries from five continents will sit down simultaneously to discuss the same questions and transmit their own proposals on climate policy to the delegations that their countries will take to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15), to be held in Copenhagen between 30 November and 11 December 2009, with the intention of updating the Kyoto Protocol.

The Spanish consultation is organised by the Scientific Culture Research Unit of CIEMAT (Ministry of Science and Innovation), the University Institute of Science and Technology Studies (University of Salamanca) and the Organisation of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture.

The exhibition of the works from the competition will be completed with the exhibition entitled: From planetary emergency to the construction of a sustainable future, a contribution from a group of educators committed to education for sustainability.
