Open call Global Space Balloon Challenge

17th december 2015 – 8th april 2016

Open call to the public included in the Global Space Balloon Challenge to participate in the launch of a high-altitude balloon

Call for scientific experimentation at a global level. It consists of carrying out a coordinated flight with a high-altitude balloon capable of reaching more than 40 kilometers in height. The purpose of this call is to bring scientific experimentation closer to the public through a recreational activity in the form of a scientific project. During the second edition, in 2015, 300 teams from 50 countries participated, launching their experiments in a balloon during the month of April. These teams are made up of two or more people of all ages and include individuals as well as educational centers and other institutions.

LABoral proposes this activity as a monthly or bimonthly workshop for the duration of the exhibition and a final public activity on the day of the experiment. The objective is for participants to design and develop one or more scientific projects using digital fabrication and experimental electronics. The basic components essential for the launch of the balloon, such as the positioning and radio systems to be able to locate the position of the balloon and the lifting system itself, will be provided by the Art Center.

The project is presented to the public on December 17, to then form a working group that will meet at LABoral on the last Thursday of each month. In April 2016, the GSBC community decides the dates for the launch.

Dates:from December 17, 2015 to April 8, 2016.
