Mario García Rodríguez

Artist and painter

The self-taught work of the Gijón painter Mario Rodriguez is mainly carried out between 1980 and 2018, with more than a hundred paintings.

When he was 10 years old at the Primo de Rivera National School in Gijón, every Friday he painted the Sunday Gospel on the blackboard, as a consequence of which he was punished without recess, but for the artist it was not a problem because painting with those “coloured chalks” was a luxury.

In the military service he had the goal of reaching the highest possible graduation, but the captain of the company did not give him any option to do any course and had him drawing all the military; these drawings consisted of murals for the recruits to learn the graduations and components of different armaments and as a consequence he did not go beyond the rank of a private soldier.

In 1995 he took early retirement and from that moment on he took up painting as something he needed to do and with greater dedication.

There are experts in painting who evaluate his work and say that it is creative and very elaborate.
