International Museum Day

LABoral celebrates this day with the audiovisual show ‘Everything is dirty’, free guided tours, an open day at the FABlab and a plantation of 20 native carbayos

15 May 2016

On the occasion of International Museum Day, which this year has the motto ‘Museums and Cultural Landscapes’, LABoral Center for Art and Industrial Creation has organized – on Sunday, May 15 – several activities for different audiences:

– Two guided tours, at 12:30 and 16:30, which will have the following structure:

  • Introduction of the Center.
  • Former students video projection, which links the current Center with the history of the building, built as a venue for vocational training workshops.
  • Meeting with artists in residence: We will tell how residencies give artists the opportunity to research, conceive, produce and present new works of art, new tools, methods, formats and perspectives for audiovisual creation. Esther Mañas and Arash Moori will tell about their project and their way of collaborating with LABoral.
  • Visit to the FabLAB. It will be shown as a working resource for artists, educators and the general public through residency, internship and collaboration programs.
  • Visit to the Sound Laboratory. The space, created to promote and provide technical and creative support to contemporary artistic practices related to sound, will be shown through four lines of action: production, research, exhibition and education.

Visit by reservation, by calling 985 18 55 77. Limited places: 20 people per visit.

– Everything is dirty at 1:00 p.m., in the Project Room.

It is an audiovisual show that revolves around the creative process, presented by three artists who meet to talk about what art is and how it is made. To do this, they share the techniques that they usually use with the result of a work, which gives the work its title, shown as a creation that develops before the viewer, and that raises, in a multitude of discursive layers, all the aspects derived from the creative activity. The title alludes to the reality taken as a political failure and to the anecdotal fact that the members of the trio have found some remains of their works and old instruments inside a garbage container, in an art center. The music of Roberto Lobo and Ernesto Avelino is born at the same time, and in an intertwined manner, as the images and manipulations of objects that Cristina Busto displays on stage, where the three evolve, giving shape to the theatrical and audiovisual ensemble.

– Open day at FABlab, between 12:00 and 19:00.

– Closing activity of the Blog Trip organized by Gijón City Council Tourism, at 4:30 p.m. The activity will consist of the planting of 20 native carbay trees – provided by the Botanical Garden – in the forest created by the artist Carmen Cantón outside the LABoral Center for Art and Industrial Creation.

In celebration of this day, the Center will be shown as a space for research and production, as a workplace at the service of creators, groups and educators, who operate between science, art, technology, creative industries and society.
