LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial (Gijón) has organised a programme of activities for all of the public in celebration of International Museum Day, which takes places next Saturday 18 May with the theme “Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change”

On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May, the Centre holds two Open Door Days during which visitors will be able to enjoy free access to the Centre, open from 12 noon to 8 pm, and take part in the guided visits to the exhibitions as well as to other spaces at the centre not usually included in traditional tours, such as the warehouses and workshops.

Guided visits
Times: 1 pm and 5 pm
Maximum Nº of people per visit: 25

Workshop: Let’s Make a Thaumatrope
Time: 6 pm
LABoral has organised a workshop aimed at children between 6 and 11 years old, which is free of charge with prior registration. A thaumatrope is a disc with two different pictures on both sides which are attached by a piece of string on each side of the disc. Both images are combined by twirling the string between the fingers, making the disc spin and rapidly change its face. Based on the persistence of vision principle, the rapid spin optically produces the illusion that both images are together.
Groups: maximum 20 participants (prior reservation)
Length: 45 minutes.
