Silencio

12th february – 26th april 2010

12 February 2010 – 26 April 2010

An interactive audiovisual installation coming from the 2nd MADI Workshops (Música Avanzada y Discapacidad Intelectual, or Advanced Music and Intellectual Disability in English), held in Avilés between December 2009 and January 2010.

Silencio [Silence] picks up on one of the core mandates of the MADI project, namely to transform the participants into active subjects who produce works of art and face up to the criticism of society without condescension.

It reflects on disabled people’s position in society today, underscoring above all else the value of difference and the enrichment brought about by viewing reality from different prisms.

This piece is the result of a process during which we shared many hours making music together and speaking about issues that concern us. All the group’s conversations were recorded and from them we culled significant fragments that were then used as the central axis around which the piece revolves. This text was then, in turn, used to create an interactive audiovisual environment with which the public can play, creating new compositions based on the images and sounds produced during the workshops.

The result is a deconstruction of language in order to relativise the concept of disability and to express our concerns on our working future, relationships in couple, everyday life, art and music, etc.

The show will take place in Almacén Sur, a space appointed to house artistic creations developed out of common channels and promoted and managed directly by the artists.
