A Perfect Day captures the development of a normal day, through the eyes of photographers from the collective Los Purificados. The passing of the hours, places and states of mind, getting up, working, travelling, pleasure, the smell of sex, fear, loneliness and death are some of the themes addressed by this exhibition, which will be on display at Almacén Sur until 24 August. Almacén Sur is a space in which the Centro de Arte wants to make room for artists and collectives that work outside the usual commercial circuits. A Perfect Day includes 48 photographs, mounted on unframed rigid support within a giant collage-mural that will cover the walls of the space, forming an installation in which the photographs of the series and the mural art of the artists of the collective are combined.
Simultaneously, on a part of the wall of the Almacén Sur, audiovisuals produced by the artists of the collective will be projected continuously, narrating the history, birth and development of Los Purificados from its origins.
This exhibition-installation presents an X-ray of the current artistic reality. Los Purificados outlines the new ideas and formats adopted by artist collectives that want to demonstrate that it is possible to establish communities of artists who work to make art public and free for all, despite the rigidity of the system and the limited opportunities that individual creators have to carve out a niche for themselves in the art world. During the first days of the exhibition, several of the collective’s artists will be present at LABoral to open a debate on the problem of access to art for artists and the public.
Los Purificados is a community of independent photographers and artists born in Spain in May 2007 with the intention of reflecting on the concept of art and the agents involved (critics, gallery owners, institutions, artists). It aims to generate free access to art for the public and its creators. As their name suggests, Los Purificados want to reflect on this idea: are only those who can judge the art of others Purified, or are the true Purified those who are above any political, social and economic prejudice? At present, there are two artistic strands: the open and public Colectivo Artístico Los Purificados, with more than 200 artists of national and international origin, and the Asociación de Fotógrafos y Artistas Independientes Los Purificados, which has 30 members.
