A generative sound installation that has won the call launched by LABoral and Lo Pati
Paisajes Imposibles is a generative sound installation that aims to show a made-up landscape based on field recordings or sound landscapes from various locations and geographic sites. The installation shows a sound landscape defined by a clock made up of bell rings from different localities. The computer system that activates this made-up sound landascape is a random device that translates the changes occurred in a 24-hour period into an interval of two hours. The time zones are defined by a clock created from different bell rings from several villages.
Edu Comelles has won the call for a shared art residency, launched by LABoral and Lo Pati – Centre d’Art de les Terres de l’Ebre, addressed to experimental music and sound art projects related with the sound landscape of Asturias and the Ebro River Delta. The sound artist has developed this installation in the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial de Gijón and in Amposta, where Lo Pati is headquartered.
Paisajes Imposibles is a sound collage, a recreation of an imaginary landscape created with bits and pieces of other realities with the intention of exploring new creative ways and new formats to show sound landscapes. The work includes field recordings from territories which are distant from each other, Asturias and the Ebro River Delta, and other sounds previously recorded for existing cartographies in each of these regions, which results in a “fiction created from bits and pieces of reality”.
