Menhir Instalación 0 is an exploration of the landscape of Asturias and León materialised in an interactive installation-cum-instrument. Superimposing imagined music over the landscape, the work endeavours to build a tactile, cohesive whole imbued with a corporeal, collective and ritualistic presence. The process of connecting with the mountain explores the inner movement one feels when walking through it.
The work approaches the landscape as a kind of musical score, opening up the experience to the audience, inviting them to become players of the instrument-artwork. The charcoal stones in the exhibition room expand to create an environment we can cross through and touch. These fragments operate as sonic controllers in such a way that when the spectators touch them, they can compose a sound space in situ.
The coal acts as a double conductor. On one hand, it channels the electricity of the individual to an Arduino board, which, after receiving the signal, emits the sound. On the other, it connects the landscape with the social, economic and environmental features it is composed of. The video that completes the installation operates as an eyewitness of the experience and provides an open space to the visual and sound hallucination generated by the landscape.
