The projects presented in this exhibition are part of the programme CRA Convocatoria de Residencias Artísticas 2023, which welcomed more than 20 artists from Asturias or living in Asturias. Although this is not an exhibition with a curatorial narrative linking the works, they all share an interest in offering a critical look at the present, in investigating contemporary issues through artistic practice.
From drawing, through painting, video, sculpture, installation and photography, the exhibition brings together a series of works produced during the residencies, or as a continuation of the projects developed during the residencies. This small approach to the production of artists from the Asturian context shows works that investigate contemporary issues such as the conservation of industrial and material heritage, the symbiosis between the natural and the manufactured, migrant identities and the need to generate fantastic imaginaries to preserve memory and myths.
The CRA programme is organised through a biannual call that offers the use of the digital fabrication laboratory (fabLAB), the Sound LAB, and shared studios where artists can share their realities and their ongoing projects in a way that produces exchanges and accumulations between them. Giving space to process and experimentation are vital aspects of the residencies, favouring artistic research and the creation of futures.
