Workshop: Knotting listening

Until 11 February 2023

Together with the artist Irene Trapote and Teresa Costales, a net weaver from Lastres, we will collectively weave a net with wool. We will reflect on the Asturian rural landscape, the feminist economy and the precariousness of certain trades, all of which are reflected in the work of the net weavers in Asturian fishing villages.

By joining together this network, we will create and share a space for listening in which we will highlight the value of the profession of the rederas. We will try to create a place where we can reflect on some of the themes that run through Irene Trapote’s project Making territory by tying up ends, such as the rural environment, the feminist economy and the precariousness of certain trades. We will talk while we work with our hands, while we put our bodies into an activity that has historically been relegated to the domestic sphere, thus bringing it into the public space.

This network will form part of the installation of the project Hacer territorio atando cabos by the artist. We will also have the pleasure of having Teresa Costales, a net-maker from Lastres, who will tell us about her experience and help us to weave this collective net.
