During this new school year, we are offering a programme of activities related to educational robotics and technology, through which pupils can learn whilst enjoying the so-called STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). This programme is open to all pupils from primary, secondary and sixth form.
Unity is one of the best tools for developing video games for multiple platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation, PC, mobiles, web browsers and tablets. You can create both 2D and 3D environments, enabling you to develop video games of any genre. Some video games, such as Assassin’s Creed, are made using this tool.
With Unity, you’ll learn the programming languages C, C++ and C#, as well as how to use meshes for your characters to create a realistic 3D video game. We’ll be able to create autonomous artificial intelligence and learn how to create textures and particles to produce realistic, lifelike environments.
No prior computer science knowledge is required to attend this workshop; the modular format and the step-by-step approach to game development ensure everything is easy to understand, combined with a high level of learning that will enable students to work independently on creating their own video game.
The development of a video game incorporates a range of knowledge that pupils will absorb implicitly: learning about body movement, identifying the location of joints and muscles, and understanding the different directions of movement. They will also learn about various physical concepts such as gravity and lateral forces in vehicles, as well as biological principles when placing other living elements within the game world.
