Learning to design like nature

11th to 12th april 2022

Patterns and forms in nature respond to the repetition of an order and arise from growth and processes of adaptation to the environment. We can see many patterns in the natural world and we can observe their geometries at different scales, identify complex systems or mathematically model their principles and laws. Stripes, spirals, spots, symmetries, branching, mosaics or bubbles are some of the most common patterns.

We will hold a two-session workshop to work with different patterns found in nature and learn how to transform this inspiration into a design, experimenting with the generation of organic shapes and geometries.

We will work on the manufacturing processes with the laser cutter, including the preparation of the file. At the end of the course, participants will have acquired knowledge on how to innovate in design through biomimicry and digital fabrication technologies to modernise the processes of creation and production.

Workshop given by Marlén López and Manuel Persa.

Activity aimed at children between 8 and 12 years old.
