What ever became of Discman players and stereo systems? What ever became of VHS and DVD players? What messages travel through the wiring at LABoral, and what whispers do the lights and the Art Centre’s electrical system hear? In a fast-moving world that discards everything deemed obsolete, electronic waste and devices can be guardians of personal stories, havens for many secrets and archives of an era.

During this week, the children will explore how to develop an emotional connection to certain electronic waste that has fallen out of use and lost its purpose, whilst also raising their awareness and imagination regarding how to engage with all the electronics that still serve a function. They will use radio and audio—electronic tools, precisely—to connect with and forge links to electronic devices and waste.

This workshop will be led by Álex Martínez, a cultural mediator and manager who promotes cultural initiatives that connect communities, institutions and artists.

LABoral Centre for Art and Industrial Creation is organising this workshop as part of the #GreenCampus Junior summer camp, and it will take place from 6 to 10 July at LABoral Centre for Art and Industrial Creation.

This camp is free of charge, aimed at children aged between 8 and 12, and its aim is to raise awareness of the importance of recycling, specifically the reuse of electronic waste as an essential practice within a model of responsible consumption.
