Artistic Residence LABoratorium Brussels

Artistic Research Residency at iMAL (Brussels’ centre for new media and digital arts) for artists from Asturias or resident in Asturias.

Until 19 February 2025

LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial and iMAL (Brussels’ centre for new media and digital arts) join forces to offer the opportunity for artistic research residencies to their respective communities.

This call is aimed at artists or collectives born or established in Asturias, who will be selected for a one-month research residency at iMAL. A similar call is launched in Belgium to offer a project a residency at LABoral.

Both organisations will share their research and production resources with the selected projects: infrastructure, equipment, networks and contacts, support, etc.

OBJECT:

The final aim of the call is to select a project by an artist or collective of artists born or resident in Asturias, to carry out a research residency at iMAL (Brussels, Belgium).

This residency is conditional on the use of the workspace at iMAL for a maximum of one month between mid-April and mid-May 2025.

For this residency iMAL is looking for artistic research projects that explore the relationship between digital, automation and work, a relationship as old as computing itself. As the technology industry continues to ‘move fast and break things’, the impact on workers and society as a whole is only intensifying, often with the complicit passivity or active support of governments that entrench these techno-liberal ideologies of progress.

The selected project must investigate and question these mechanisms of alienation. It must also respond to the automation of our society, proposing alternative forms of resistance and cultural/artistic production.

CONDITIONS

The selected artist will receive: 2,000 euros as an honorarium and a maximum of 1,000 euros for expenses necessary for the research.

This budget of 1,000 euros is a maximum budget, intended for expenses directly related to the selected research project. These are expenses that will be jointly determined as necessary to achieve the objectives of the residency.

Travel and accommodation expenses for one month will be covered by iMAL.

The artist or artist collective will have access to iMAL’s production spaces:
