Games are no longer inconsequential distractions. The language of the creation game today serves to find solutions to complex problems; for education and criticism; to unite communities; to create sophisticated aesthetic experiences. Playing is one of the most relevant cultural strategies of the 21st century and one that most directly influences cultural offerings aimed at young people.
Living and playing are no longer separate things. Games can happen today at any time and anywhere: on the computer and in the park, but also on the screen of our phone, on the bus, or inside the inbox of our email account. Playing is exploring, and the city has become the largest game board.
LABoral proposes to the Cabueñes Meetings a celebration of play as an emerging cultural phenomenon that will explore the most innovative and experimental forms of play through a meeting and actions in the street. Entering new media such as urban games, which take the entire city as a setting, or the independent games movement and “serious games”, which offer alternatives to the more commercial forms of video games.
Game designers, artists, educators, playwrights, theorists and academics will meet in Gijón to participate in a meeting and activities that will take place in different formats, from morning meetings to actions and spaces for participation in the street and in space. of the art center.
