Book Day

27th april 2011

The 28th resolution of UNESCO’s Paris General Conference in 1995 proclaimed 23 April as “World Book and Copyright Day”, considering books to be a powerful means of disseminating knowledge. The importance of this celebration is based, therefore, on the promotion of a cultural artefact that enriches our sensitivity as citizens.

Book Day at LABoral aims to retrace the history of the book and the different technologies associated with its production up to the appearance of the digital book and the different devices for reading it, which has produced a much richer panorama than that of the 20th century.

LABoral aims to bring the creative process behind any book to life through workshops for the youngest children as well as to stimulate reading and knowledge in an artistic environment.

On April 27, 2011, LABoral Centro de Arte will celebrate this year’s Book Day with the participation of 250 children from educational centres:

  • EEI El Bibio, Gijón
  • EEI San Eutiquio, Gijón
  • CP La Gesta, Oviedo

Throughout the morning the pupils, divided into age groups, will take part in different workshops, with the participation of the Volvoreta Collective, a multidisciplinary group made up of different specialists, whose manager and coordinator is Sofía Alaínez:
