Benjamín Menéndez

Artist, painter, sculptor, installator, teacher and reconstructor

Born in Avilés, Asturias, 1963

Painter, a sculptor, an installation artist, a teacher… and, above anything else, a tenacious reconstructor of the mosaic of memory through the materials that memory is made of. These materials are the true protagonists of his work, beyond the form in which they are materialised: the earth through his ceramic work; minerals by means of industrial transformation; and even dreams, desires and sensations, channelled through the paths of colour and texture and through painting. And, with their power, all the above materials overflow the forms they are materialised in, ultimately speaking of the drastic and sustained symbioses of human experience with the environment where that experience takes place. It is in the truth of that symbiosis where the verisimilitude of this artist’s apparently diverse and disparate works lies.
