Inlays of the Berlin Wall on wood and plaster. Dimensions: 4.25 x 3.70 m

–

This sculpture, produced specifically for this exhibition, incorporates authentic fragments of the Berlin Wall, integrated into a new structure that recaptures the physical and symbolic dimension of one of the great political and ideological divisions of the 20th century. The original remains, steeped in historical memory, cease to be mere vestiges of the past and become elements of a critical reflection on power, control, exclusion and the need to establish boundaries.

The work questions the apparent contradiction of a society that celebrates the fall of certain walls whilst continuing to erect others, both physical and ideological. The wall thus emerges as a metaphor for the mechanisms of separation that persist in new political, economic and social forms.

Far from functioning as a commemorative monument, *New Wall* offers an uncomfortable perspective on our own contemporary reality: we tear down the walls of history whilst legitimising those of the present.

These vestiges of the past, now sold as souvenirs, offer a new interpretation of history as a farce, as a commodified product and, ultimately, as an absurd exercise in a present day fraught with tension and regression.
