In Host, Lucas explores the isolation of the individual in a world saturated with electronic technologies. Merging performance with kinetic editing strategies, Lucas sets up virtual interactions with mediated devices to unravel her complex psychological relationships with her dream-like digital environment. Lucas writes: “In this video, I participate in an online therapy session directed by the system operator of a street side multi-media kiosk. As I indulge in a virtual conversation about a troublesome relationship, the session instantly becomes an amalgamation of daytime television and tabloid, wherein the surveillance camera becomes the eye of the media”.
