Foreign Bodies is a publication that brings together photographic material from medical and gemological archives, linking, through the process of biomineralization, microscopic images of tumor formation in mammals and pearl formation in bivalves. The appearance of a pearl is not unlike the formation of a tumor: cells reproduce abnormally, creating tissue that should not exist. The publication thus explores unusual aesthetic dimensions, sometimes glimpsing the grotesque in what is conventionally considered beautiful and vice versa.
