This work stems from the artist’s desire to engage with the horse from a perspective that shifts the human gaze. Through photography and video, Elsa Suárez explores the horse’s body, its gestures and the way it inhabits its environment from a sensory perspective. The image fragments, blurs and zooms in.
The project explores the animal-human relationship within the context of Spanish cowboy-style horse training. An encounter in which language is transformed.
The artist begins with a personal quest and curiosity, from which she seeks to see things differently, to approach the subject through its own rhythms and by listening. The work, rather than being a faithful representation of the horse, is an attempt to perceive the world as the horse does.
