Olmo Cuña graduated in Visual Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Pontevedra, completed a master’s degree in Artistic Production at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and was part of the SOMA 2016 Educational Program in Mexico City. His recent exhibitions include Lo fingido Verdadero, 2021 Casa de Lope de Vega, Madrid, Inestimable Azar, 2021, XIV FEMSA Biennial, Centro Cultural Antiguo Colegio Jesuita, Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Todo Happens As Si, 2019, Can Felipa, Barcelona and Crisis ?, What Crisis?, 2018 Tenerife Arts Space.

Olmo Cuña’s activity is based on everyday experiences in different places in his environment, showing special interest in observing and questioning how the most generalized and consumerist forms of approaching the territory through the image operate. His processes, which are based on aspects related to painting and the passage of time, often incorporate activations or stories with which he seeks to propose other conditions of perception with respect to a certain cultural, landscape or urban scenario.

Project in residence

Salón de actos

Salón de actos project proposes to relate the Gijón Trade Union House with the notion of reflective nostalgia and the moving image. Taking into account that the assembly hall of the Casa Sindical functioned as a projection room, Olmo Cuña seeks to approach the building both from bibliographic sources and from direct experiences in the place, to develop a series of actions recorded on video that speculate about the acts that have been done there in the past, the acts that are taking place in the present, and the acts that could be done there in the future.

Project selected in the I Call for Artistic Residencies 2022
