Andréa Petit and Alexis Muller are artisanal designers, graduated in 2014 from the Boulle School in Paris, specialising in furniture design. In 2017, they settled in Bilbao, where they founded Studio Petit Muller, a material research workshop covering interior design projects, furniture, lighting and educational and social projects.
Specialising in metal design, Alexis has worked in various fields such as the luxury sector, interior design, museography and sculpture. On the other hand, Andrea focuses on design, photography, video art and performance with the aim of broadening the spectrum of our perception of reality. She seeks to open the frontiers of science to create experiences that connect science with dreams.
From the creation of ergonomic “Erko” stools to the development of the “Second Skin” methodology, aimed at improving waste management and reducing the environmental impact of design, our approach focuses on creating circular ecosystems between industrialists, artisans and designers.
Together, we focus on challenging conventional design practices, using each project as a means to question and bring sensitivity and harmony to our environment.
Project in residence
L’essence du lieu is an interactive luminaire that acts as an embodiment of a place. In this project, Andrea Petite imagines that places are sentient beings that want to love and be loved, in order to create a deeper connection with the environment and thus feel part of something bigger.
This light loves and accompanies the people who occupy the space, offering luminous environments that adapt to their needs and surroundings. Like a bonfire, it needs to be cultivated to offer its light and warmth. The device feeds on the love and gentleness of the people who interact with it. When it is caressed or when people cuddle close to it, the light intensifies and the place (which is expressed through the device) can fulfil its function: to create a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere for its occupants. If it is not fed regularly, it weakens and dies.
This project seeks to create a harmonious use of technology, placed at the service of empathy, listening and love. The Lumina Connect system is an open source project developed in collaboration with an international community.
