Óscar Molero

6 May 2024 – 31 January 2025

Óscar Molero always wanted to be an illustrator. He studied a degree in Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, and focused his learning in that direction. After finishing his degree, he specialised in scientific illustration courses on marine fauna and entomology at the Ilustraciencia academy.

He currently works as a multidisciplinary artist and plastic arts teacher, combining figurative drawing and painting projects, graphic narrative, editorial illustration, mural painting, scientific drawing and stop-motion animation. He teaches workshops and courses in these disciplines for all ages. He is also developing several independent comic and illustrated album projects.

During the last two years he has been increasingly dedicated to teaching, giving courses and workshops on a wide variety of plastic arts. This experience has led him to set up an educational project that brings together a wide variety of artistic disciplines and connects with students in a way that she has found more effective and fun, offering the possibility of working on many other transdisciplinary skills.

Project in residence

Mientras llueve

Mientras lleve is a classroom-based stop-motion animation school. In it, all the phases of an audiovisual project: idea, script, production, storyboard, technical script, shooting, editing, dubbing, sound and post-production. There will be classes aimed at children, young people and adults. The stop-motion technique is a form of animation in which the stills are photographs; of paper cut-outs, plasticine dolls or people. It is a framework for working on skills such as plastic expression with a wide variety of materials, teamwork, narrative creation, literary writing, dramatisation, diction, computer technologies, and the planning and creation phases of projects.

The teaching methodology is fundamentally practical: we learn by doing animations. At the beginning they are very simple, to familiarise ourselves with the materials. Once the group has the necessary knowledge, a final project is decided together.the complete development of which takes up most of the course. The production offers many creative possibilities: construction of puppets, miniature sets, modelling…

The project is in operation, in the form of itinerant workshops in different public spaces in Asturias and with a group of classes in the bookshop “El Bosque de la Maga Colibrí” in Gijón.
