Orba.yu (Covadonga Pérez)

4 February 2025 – 31 July 2025

Covadonga Pérez Muñiz, originally from Gijón, grew up surrounded by Asturian nature, an environment of leafy trees and endless meadows that deeply marked her artistic sensibility. From an early age, this landscape and Asturian traditions became her main source of inspiration, a common thread that permeates her work with authenticity and a connection to the organic.

With the firm conviction to dedicate herself to art, she decided to study art after finishing high school, which led her to move to Bilbao. There, she had the opportunity to discover new techniques and to come into contact with a diverse range of artists who broadened her creative vision. However, it was during the third year of her degree that she experienced a turning point in her artistic career: the discovery of the work of textile artists.

Textile art became her preferred means of expression, a way of materialising her creative vision and translating the essence of the nature that surrounded her into woven threads. Through this discipline, she manages to capture the textures, nuances and organic details that inspire her work, recreating the visual and tactile richness of the natural world.

Project in residence

Vibraciones sonoras

Vibraciones sonoras is an interactive installation that fuses textile art with piezoelectric technology to explore the relationship between touch and sound. Through elaborate pieces made with materials such as wool and fibers, integrated with piezoelectric sensors, the viewer can generate sounds when touching the pieces, depending on the intensity, rhythm and location of the contact. This project seeks to transform the perception of textile art, breaking the barrier between the work and the public. By allowing direct manipulation, it invites an immersive, sensory experience that reinforces the connection between the senses and the environment. The interaction with the pieces stimulates synesthesia between touch and sound, causing us to reflect upon our way of perceiving reality.

Born as an evolution of the author’s Final Degree Project, Vibraciones sonoras arises from her interest in the synergy between the textile, the dreamlike and nature. In her artistic trajectory, the exploration of textures and colors has been key, but she felt that sound was a pending element. Inspired by the rhythmic and visual patterns of nature, she decided to merge the tradition of tapestry creation with contemporary technology, achieving a work that connects the tangible to the ethereal.

This project redefines the experience of art, transforming textile pieces into an interactive media that invites both touching and listening, offering an innovative perspective on the connections between senses and emotions.
