Project in residence
Xixón, Ciudad Sonora is the project with which Maresia proposes the creation of a musical map of his city, Xixón, collecting its sounds and transforming them, looking for common points between soundscape, ambient, IDM, techno or concrete music. A project to describe spaces and corners of the city, but also to develop tools and processes to create “in situ” atmospheres, rhythms and melodies from the soundscape of any place, at any time.
In a first phase, between March and October 2016, his work was based on the development of tools and procedures to create electronic music from soundscapes, manipulating recordings to achieve specific sounds, converting frequencies into midi data to create melodic lines. Always with the premise of not using “foreign” sounds to the soundscapes: synthesizers, samples and libraries, etc. Everything you hear comes from the recordings they make throughout the city.
Maresia continues to try different styles, developing the songs without losing sight of the “place” they refer to, but experimenting with textures and structures like noise, drones, sequencers…. During the next months their work will focus on: expanding the sound map of the city, collecting soundscapes from more areas; developing new ways to work with the landscapes when creating rhythmic and sound patterns, as well as perfecting the ones followed so far; and preparing a staging of the project.
Maresia are Javier (Jahzzar) and Pedro (Hare, Koyaziu, S.U.M Xixón).
