Jorge Granda

5 November 2018 – 30 April 2019

Jorge Granda began playing the piano and synthesizers in a self-taught way at the age of 8 and at 15 he took his first steps with the electric and acoustic guitar, instruments that have accompanied him ever since. To date, he has released 11 solo albums as well as numerous collaborations in different musical projects, some of them local and others international. His work in music has been developing uninterruptedly for the last 20 years, mainly in the audiovisual area, especially focused on the composition of soundtracks for cinema, collaborating in projects of great importance within this sector, winning several awards, and always trying to find the balance between what he wanted to do in his beginnings as a composer and what the market currently demands.

The next frontier

The next frontier is the title of his eighth album, a project through which he investigates some aspects of the electronic music of the late 80’s and early 90’s, in a work of broad experimental cut.

The research process focuses on musical synthesis to find a specific chronology that serves as a retrospective and allows us to see some of the phases that have arisen within electronic music in recent decades.

In this way, this study on musical technology aims to be, in addition to an album, a work of a broad unipersonal character that combines technology, harmony, praxis, aesthetics of the electronic and sound arts together with the sound poetry of instrumental music itself, developed and sought after by a multitude of artists in present and past times.

‘The next frontier’ is the project selected in the 2018 II Call for Art Residencies.
