Multidisciplinary artist trained as a D.O.P. in her postgraduate studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), she shows a strong interest in sensory cinema in her short films and installations. He has recently obtained an MFA degree in experimental media at UQAM.
In his opinion a work of art should be understood first and foremost as a sensory experience.
Her interests in terms of research and creation are, among others, proprioception and sensoriality in the field of cinema and audiovisual installations; the search and research of alternative ways to achieve the haptic effect on viewers; the use of sound as a complete sensory tool that also affects touch and taste; and the use of the different characteristics of sound (frequency, timbre, spatialization, etc.) and image (texture, movement, light, etc.) in order to develop techniques capable of provoking the immersion of viewers.
Andrée-AnneRoussel’s work has been exhibited at Centre Bang, La Bande Vidéo, Sapporo International Short Film Festival and Regard sur le Court Métrage au Saguenay.
Project in residence
During her residency at LABoral, Andrée-Anne Roussel will develop Afinando (The Warm-Up), an immersive sound installation that focuses on the chaotic sound emitted by an orchestra when the musicians warm up before tuning their instruments.
Canadian artist Andrée-AnneRoussel will work during her residency at LABoral on The Warm-Up, an immersive sound installation that will be shown in the Sound LABoratory of the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial.
His residency is part of the collaboration agreement signed between LABoral and Avatar, a center in Quebec (Canada) specialized in sound and electronic art, aimed at developing an exchange program for Spanish and Canadian artists. Likewise, LABoral will launch an open call for Spanish artists interested in developing a residency in this Canadian production center within the framework of ENCAC’s first open call for Audovisual Artists and Developers.
The artist will investigate the sound emitted by an orchestra when the musicians begin to tune their instruments, as a starting point to create her immersive sound installation using this sound that, although it seems to have no name, seems to her one of the most fascinating and intoxicating sounds in existence.
The Conservatory of Music and Dance of Gijón will collaborate with Andrée-Anne Roussel in this project. A considerable number of students from the Conservatory will participate in the recording which aims to appropriately capture the hypnotic surround soundscape of this musical “warm-up”.
