Ernesto Oroza was born in Havana in 1968. He earned a degree at the Havana Superior Institute of Design in 1993. Oroza is author of the book Objets Réinventés. La création populaire a Cuba, Paris, 2002. In 1998 he was visiting professor in Les Ateliers, Ecole Nationale Supérieur de Création Industrielle (ENSCI) Paris, and professor of the Polytechnic Institute of Design of Havana 1995-2000. As an interdisciplinary artist and designer has been working primarily on conceptual design and architecture. Specifically on the human productions developed in periods of social and economic crisis. Their investigations are expressed through dissimilar medias like installation, objects, scale models, videos, documentations and texts. Oroza was Artist in Residence for Christoph Merian Foundation in Basel (Switzerland), 2006. In 2007 he was selected as a Guggenheim fellow and won the Cintas Foundation Fellowship for 2008.
