David Alonso Medina (1978). Graduated in Geography from the University of Oviedo in 2002, he holds a scholarship on aerial photography from the Ministry of the Interior and the University of Oviedo until 2004. In 2006 he started working as a geographer for the state engineering company Tragsatec, where he worked as a town planning consultant for the Ministry of Ecological Transition, studying industrial heritage and analysing fluvial landscapes. In 2015 he became a councillor of the City Council of Gijón where he developed his work in the areas of urban planning and environment, being part of the Board of Directors of COGERSA, of the SOCIEDAD GIJON AL NORTE, of the Sectorial Council of Environment of the City Council of Gijón and of the Commission of Conformation of the Central Area of Asturias, among other responsibilities.
He began to collaborate with numerous media outlets, including La Nueva España, Nortes, Mi Gijón, TPA, RPA and Cadena Ser.
He also began to give talks in various fields on atmospheric pollution, water management and the performance of professional geography, until the present day.
In 2019 he returns to his job where he resumes the previous activity along with new projects in the areas of environmental recovery of landscapes degraded by industrial activity and field analysis of the public water domain.
In 2020 he obtained the ‘Ramón de la Sagra’ research grant awarded by the Alvargonzalez Foundation together with the University of Oviedo, which lasts for the whole of 2021, carrying out research that ends with the work presented in January 2022 ‘The evolution of Gijón in the last 30 years from an urban, socioeconomic and environmental perspective. 1991-2021’
In November 2023 the Urban Routes activity begins, guided routes through the urban area of Gijón and also the rural environment of the municipality, to learn about the architectural heritage of the city and its history. These routes have attracted the interest and attendance of a large number of local residents and the media.
The Urban Routes project begins in December 2024 in conjunction with Laboral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial.
