Calin Segal (Romania, 1992) is a digital artist, with a special emphasis on generative systems. His academic career began at the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, where he delved into robotic fabrication and digital design. Although initially inclined towards architecture, he opted for a self-taught career in interactive and generative art, driven by his fascination with computational systems.
Segal explores the intersection of art, technology and science with design, craft, coding and 3D modeling. With a forensic and investigative approach, he investigates the complex systems underlying both natural phenomena and human interactions. Through his generative artworks, Calin translates real-world systems into algorithmic forms, discovering new ways to visualize and relate to the hidden patterns that define our world.
Despite being at the beginning of his career, Segal already has a number of defining projects such as the Mental Transposition digital pavilion for the White Night in Paris (2018), Path to Heaven exhibited at the Enric Miralles Foundation (2020), Planet LEV presented at the Madrid LEV festival in Matadero (2021), Binary deconstruction presented at the Geneva Mapping Festival (2022) or Tales from the receding edge presented at the G7 forum in Bologna. Recently, he has been part of renowned residencies such as V2 in Rotterdam for RIT, S+T+ARTS VOJEXT program, CYENS – Centre in Cyprus, S+T+ARTS GRIN at CINECA Italy and European Digital Deal at Fundación Zaragoza Ciudad del Conocimiento, in collaboration with Ars Electronica.
Artist included in the exhibition Digital Machines. Technology, Industry, Society with the work Whispers.
