Each route we embark on seeks to learn a little more about everything we encounter in our daily lives, in the city where we live, work, visit or stroll through. And all this through the brief history of each building. We will review some of the particularities of architectural styles (classicism, eclecticism, modernism, regionalism, art deco, rationalism, autarchy, modern movement and developmentalism) and also the social, economic and cultural factors that were present at each stage of Gijón’s development and growth. We will look at its urban advances and setbacks, the processes that led to the city’s growth and, especially, the combination of all these factors that has given rise to the unique geography of Gijón’s urban and rural landscape. We will explore Gijón at street level.
Departure at 5pm from Plaza de la Luz.
No prior registration is required.
This activity is part of Rutas Urbanas, exploring Xixón and its buildings, a project conceived and led by geographer David Alonso.
