Walk around the LABoral Art Center, the Laboral University and Somió with the artist Juanjo Palacios

Hildegard Westerkamp defines sound walking as any excursion whose main purpose is to listen to all the sounds that surround us wherever we are.

Although these sound walks are not articulated following fixed guidelines but are conceived as open processes that allow us to reach a certain state of sound consciousness, Westerkamp proposes a simple listening methodology.

“Start by listening to the sounds of your body as you move. She tries to move you without making any sound. Turn your ears away from the sounds you make and listen to nearby sounds. Take your ears away from those sounds and listen further, in the distance. Until now you have isolated sounds from each other and recognized them as individual entities […] put them together and listen to them as if you were listening to a sound composition.

The artist and composer Juanjo Palacios invites us to take a sound walk around LABoral Centro de Arte to listen carefully to the different sounds that we encounter along the way.

The aim of this walk is for participants to get to know the soundscape of the LABoral environment and be aware of how they perceive it, how they relate to it and how important it is to be actively involved in its construction and preservation.

The walk will end with a visit to the Rain Cathedral exhibition.
