PICASSa

A performance by the dancer Lorena Nogal, as part of the Danza Xixón 2026 festival

6 October — 7 October 2026

As part of Danza Xixón 2026, LABoral is hosting PICASSa, a performance by the dancer, choreographer and creator Lorena Nogal.

Inspired by Picasso’s visual ruptures and closely linked to the Cubist imagination, PICASSa explores detachment, the traces of the ephemeral and the search for new forms of expression. The piece proposes a transformation of the museum space to rethink reality from multiple perspectives and establish new relationships between the body, space, the imagination and the audience.

LABoral Centro de Arte will thus become the setting for a creative journey through different visual landscapes, where dance engages in dialogue with the architecture and the Centre’s various exhibition spaces, transcending the conventional boundaries of the theatre stage.

Following the performance, there will be a talk with the artist at LABoral Centro de Arte.

Time: 8.30 pm | Performance duration: 50 mins | Talk duration: 20 mins

Admission: free, no booking required

About Lorena Nogal

Lorena Nogal is a dancer, choreographer and creator, recognised as one of the leading figures in contemporary dance in Spain. Trained at the Institut del Teatre and IT Dansa, she began her career performing works by leading international choreographers such as Ohad Naharin, Jiří Kylián, Alexander Ekman and Nacho Duato.

Since 2008, she has been a key member of La Veronal, where she works closely with Marcos Morau as a performer and creative collaborator. She has taken part in productions and projects with highly prestigious companies such as the Paris Opera Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater and Ballet Zürich, establishing a strong international presence.

At the same time, she develops her own work as a choreographer. Her pieces *El elogio de la fisura* and *Picassa* mark a turning point in her career as a choreographer. In these works, she explores the dissociation of movement, the construction of the visual image and the body as a space for transformation, establishing her own distinctive and recognisable artistic voice. These works represent a shift towards a more radical, personal and refined exploration of choreographic language, where formal precision coexists with a powerful symbolic and visual dimension. Currently on tour, both pieces demonstrate a strong aesthetic identity and a demanding style of choreography that marks a new phase in her artistic journey.

She also works as a movement director for other creators and performing arts projects, bringing a choreographic perspective that integrates composition, internal rhythm and bodily architecture in dialogue with other disciplines.

In 2024, she received the National Dance Award in the Performance category and the Talía Award for Best Female Performer (Spanish Academy of Performing Arts), accolades that highlight a unique, rigorous and constantly evolving artistic career.
